Blustery Day

April 12, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

1 egg am-Christopher Robin would have his umbrella ready on a day like today. A storm from the west has hit town, making winter feel like it never left. Apologizes for not posting the real world insisted I be in it, and my blog suffers for that. The news is good from the flock. Everyone is plump and happy, a bit annoyed that they haven’t free ranged all week.

This week is Broccoli and Honeydew Melon week. Good source of Vitamin D, C, and A in these eggs.

I have started planning my palette garden trying to figure out what to plant etc. So far Strawberry chard, Spinach, Kale and will add herbs in around those.

3-28 Signs of Spring

March 28, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

3 egg AM-The signs of spring are starting to show themselves, the air is not so bitter, then birds are chirping wildly, and the snowdrops have survived again! I got those snowdrops from a customer, we used to trade flowers, I had never heard of them before, but they sure are pretty in this landscape of brown, brown and brown.

Flock is happy treats of broccoli and cantaloupe. They sure get excited for their treats, flying all over the coop. Noticing some feather loss, sure they should be going into a molt pretty soon.

3-26 Miracles

March 26, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

6 eggs AM-Today seemed rather gloomy but dry. I went to feed and water and was telling the flock how we missed the storm and we weren’t going to get any snow. AS IF! I looked up snowflakes fell from the sky. *sigh*Winter is never going to end! The other puzzling fact is I have 6 eggs! I did collect yesterday, so…hmmm. Maybe Betsy’s ghost came back to lay one? or the hen not laying finally gave up her cargo and laid 2? Miracle egg?

Another miracle is Rohan was put on pain medication yesterday and today he’s as normal as ever. I may stop using them, as he seems perfectly normal now.

3-26 Late Entry

March 25, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

4 egg AM- Late day all around. Flock is happy but bored. I let them out on Sunday and they had a blast hunting and pecking. Tomorrow I’ll buy them fresh fruit or veggie. I have foundthe spinsch binds them up, so may switch to broccoli the iron isn’t as high, but has good vitiman C and A. Weather today was very windy.  It was starting to snow a bit as it got dark.

Rohan to vet he has been limping putting no pressure on his right back leg. Got him some pain meds and hope for the best.

3-21 spring?

March 21, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

3 eggs am-It’s freezing outside and the fallen snow has a sheet of ice on it making it tough to get around. Flock was noisy complaining of the cold and I can’t blame them. Two chickens haven’t laid eggs in 3 days. I am unsure of who they are, and haven’t had any days off to observe them. Coop run is still a bit muddy, but nothing like the muck of before.

Rohan loved the hard snow flying around the yard at breakneck speeds.

3-19 Snow

March 19, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

3-eggs AM-As predicted more snow, not a lot maybe 4 inches, but too much for this time of the year. Coop got a bit inside and it’s a bit muddy, but 1/2 is dry which is good. Treats of the kale and baby spinach, and butternut squash. Flock is complaining, and I wish I could make it all better, but we all have to wait out the weather. Making kitchen curtains today and maybe some cookies for Easter.

Happy Birthday cousin Jim Reimann, I wish we could have met!

3-17 Sunny Green St. Patty’s Day

March 17, 2013 - Author: Fallen sky

4 eggs AM- Bright sun welcomes me outside, but the air is still chilly. Flock is frisky and debating letting them free range a little before yes, another storm on the horizon. Possible 3-6 inches of snow predicted, I hope it misses us. My snowdrops are coming up beautifully and a welcome sign that spring isn’t too far away. Treats included fresh kale, organic baby spinach and a chunk of old sourdough bread I made at the beginning of the week. Everything is good, coop cleaned today and fresh PDZ laid down, and hopes to take a walk today.
